Out of curiosity, would it be cheaper to be ut as a second named driver on a car for a 18 year old than setting up my own quote? Any help is appreciated

depends really only real way to see if either save you money is to go online and do as many quotes with or without named drivers

Being a named driver is a false economy IMO, You won't build up any no claims being a named driver. Is it your car? If yes then it needs to be insured in your name as insurance companies are wise to this sort of thing.

When looking for quotes for our 17 year old daughter, having the policy in her name with me and her mum as named drivers lowered the quote by £900-£1000 than just being her on her own.

might consider you're points, cheapest quote i've so far got was with 1ST Central for £2358 a year, looking like either 2nd name driver or blackbox
